One of the most notable features of underwater warfare evolution in the last decade is undoubtedly the growing interest in systems capable of deceiving and countering attacking torpedoes. WASS, as world leader in the design and production of advanced HWT and LWT, has since many years focused its technological capability in the parallel development of effective countermeasure systems able to protect surface ships and submarines from attacking torpedoes. Based on low cost, light weight, high performance countermeasure devices, deployed in the course of a special evasive counter-manoeuvre, WASS has developed and is producing the C310 system for surface ships and the C303/S system for submarines defence.
Both systems employ a salvo of stationary jammers, which is a noise generator device, and of Mobile Target Emulators (MTE), which is a self-propelled unique device capable to emulate real targets to any type of LWT and HWT.
The vessel reaction can be optimized by means of a special digital simulation tool developed by WASS, the ORACOM, which can simulate the performance of the systems in presence of different types of torpedoes.
The WASS products portfolio in the field of ASW is completed by a complete range of artificial targets, the self-propelled BSS and the stationary CTS, for training and evaluation activities of torpedoes and sonar. These targets can be used in the PTR, the Portable 3D Tracking Range, for more accurate assessment of the torpedo performances.
