Whitehead experience in the modern heavyweight torpedo field dates back to the 1970’s when the Company developed the A184 weapon system. Since then, different variants of the system have entered into operational service and the A184 mod.3 is the latest model capable to respond to the operational requirements of the Italian Navy.
Recently, the WASS HWT family has been enhanced by the introduction of “Black-Shark”, the most advanced and powerful system currently available on the market. It features a completely new acoustic head named ASTRA and a new powerful, very long endurance and extremely silent electric propulsion system, which renders impossible the torpedo counter-detection at useful ranges.
“Black-Shark” includes an advanced processor capable of real target classification in very complex underwater scenarios and a revolutionary fiber optic wire guidance, so to be considered the most suitable ASW weapon for the next century.
As evidence of such outstanding and unique capability, “Black-Shark” is already under production for different major Navies around the world.
